BELGRADE, Serbia – THE SONAR INSTITUTE was honored to have its Vice President Zorana Foley and Serbian Regional Representative Mia Brzakovic attend the prestigious annual OSSI Conference in Belgrade, Serbia. The event, known as OSSIlacija, is a central gathering of the Organization of Serbian Students Abroad (OSSI), which brings together its members, partners, and friends.
Prestigious Gathering in Belgrade
The conference took place on Friday, August 20, 2021, in the grand hall of the Belgrade City Assembly. The OSSI, established in 1997, is a non-profit, non-governmental, and apolitical association created by Serbian students living abroad. Its mission is to unite Serbian students worldwide, promote Serbia internationally, and facilitate their return to their home country.
Keynote Speech and Representation
During the event, Mia Brzakovic delivered an inspiring speech, addressing the assembly on various ongoing projects and future plans. Zorana highlighted the significant achievements of THE SONAR INSTITUTE through her conversations with various conference attendees and emphasized the importance of international collaboration in education and research, and the rich potential for OSSI to collaborate with THE SONAR.

The OSSI’s Mission and Activities
Since its inception, OSSI has grown to include branches in fifteen countries across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia, with a current membership of 10,000, including 150 active members. The organization’s activities aim to create opportunities for Serbian students abroad to reconnect with their homeland and to promote Serbia globally through various events and projects.
OSSIlaction 2021 showcased the organization’s past achievements, ongoing projects, and future plans. The event also provided a platform for networking and exchange of ideas among participants, further strengthening the bonds between Serbian students and their home country.

The reception concluded with a renewed commitment from THE SONAR INSTITUTE and OSSI to continue supporting Serbian students and enhancing educational exchange. The Institute’s representatives reaffirmed their dedication to promoting international education and fostering cultural understanding.
